Interesting how deltaFosB is responsible for the hypersensitivity of our brain to triggers related to our addictions. Present in the nucleus accumbens and dorsal striatum, when we expose ourselves to high levels of addictive behavior, it can change gene expression like a molecular switch, and since it is so stable, it remains present and does not degrade for a while, leading to the long path of recovery for addicts.
