At 220 pages in, the emotional heaviness has nearly did me in. Each character is steeped in anger, self-loathing, full of disdain for others. I almost DNF’d out of sheer exhaustion. Enter Walt, who unexpectedly moved the needle on the mood of the book, just enough to keep me reading. He’s got 50 pages to fix this, timer is set.
