This book was heartbreaking. There were a couple minor things that confused me - I don’t know if these were errors by the author or what but they bugged me. How did he know her birth name and how did he know about her step father and natural father? Can’t imagine her telling him? And there was no internet for him to look her up. Otherwise a brilliant book

I appreciate how the author has dealt with the repeated rapes of a young girl by not using brutal descriptions etc It’s bad enough just knowing it’s happening.

Is that truly what women were put through during childbirth in the 40’s?? I’m truly surprised we didn’t die out as a species!!
