The shift from past to present tense in the same paragraph talking about the same thing and the fact that the characters where explicitly eating breakfast then the main characters “lunch started to churn” in her stomach is driving me crazy. Is this poor writing or the author playing at time shifts?

I’m enjoying this so far! I received an ARC copy and I dont know if its due to that, it’s supposed to be written this way and it’ll make sense later, or just the author finding her strength in writing as this is her first book but the first person POV keeps flowing between past and present tense when discussing the same topic… very distracting
