The first quarter of the book is not great. It's mostly spent on explaining setting mechanics, checking every box for setting races, and telling you the main character is Jason Bourne.
Fortunately, it does finally start to do something around that 25-30% mark, and I'm glad I stuck with it until then (if barely!). It took a long time, but it's become enjoyable fantasy space piracy that I actually want to finish now.
