Summary: This story is about a girl named Claire who used to be a vessel or birth mother, but then was transferred to a fish hatchery. After finding out her product would be released she sneaked her way onto a boat and left. It crashed onto an island where she was tended for until she was fine. She forgot most of her memory, and is starting a new life on the island.

Visualize: I was able to empathize the feeling of love Claire had for Gabriel. On page 53 it says, "...to have this feeling- whatever this feeling was. Claire had never experienced it before, the earning she had to be with the new child, remembering his face." When I heard this line it perfectly described what love really feels like. Lois Lowry used perfect descriptive writing to convey the feeling of affection.

TEXT to TEXT: This book reminds me of "A Girl Named Ivy". In "Son" Claire lost her memory when she was washed up on the shore of a random island. In "A Girl Named Ivy" Ivy lost her memory when she went into a coma. They told her she would remember things over time and she did. In "Son" they promised he memory would come back and we are still waiting to see. They both have losing their memory in common.

Antagonist: The antagonist in this story is the community. I know this because they are making the birth mothers go through immense pain without allowing them to see or move during the process. They also are not fully informed about the child that they have produced and carried for 9 months. This shows they are the antagonist because they are negatively impacting and opposing the main character.
