this extended flashback is way too extended and i don't know where there needs to be a 500 page flashback in the middle of a thousand page long book anyway. do something different, mess with the structure of it. the way this was structured didn't even work as a fanfic because i remember this is around when i abandoned the fanfic.

I don't think this book got a substantial developmental edit between when it was fanfic and when it became trad pub, because the author kept the bizarre decision to have the middle of the book be a 500 page extended flashback that immediately guts any tension of the previously established narrative.
