James Islington relies a little too much on the mentor telling the protagonist “there’s no time to explain now, in due time” trope. It’s to the point where I feel that there are such large gaps in the story I’m struggling to even see the outline of it, though he is an engrossing storyteller.

I really like the setting of this book so far! Much more understandable than the beginning of his other series, and true to his fast-paced writing style.
