It seems I spoke too soon, there is a possibility of a soul bond with zak. This could mean a loss of free will or death of his soul. Basically a familiar bond. I have a feeling this is a red herring.

Honestly thought I’d drop it. Pacing is still super slow. Hard part about time loops is they sometimes don’t establish consequences. Like he’s done several time loops and he’s only benefitted. Since he’s also a reluctant protagonist he can pretty much hide from the conflict. What’s slower than a slow burn? This book.

On a positive note, the narrator seems to have improved.

Wow, the narrator is killing what could be an interesting story.

Fairly standard opening for this type of book. Introvert, comes from a wealthy family, just wants to fade into obscurity after graduating mage school.

Narrator is ruining this for me, always seems to present the character as halting and speaking through clenched teeth.
