Yes it's very well done, nothing magical, there are still flaws and fragilities for instance in human photosynthesis.
Somehow it reminds me of one of my best ever reads: the Earth children of Jean M. Auel. Have you read the series?

I think you'll also have fun with the fossilite part, it was one of my favorites in the book.

Yes, I read the Earth children, I really enjoyed the series (a looong time ago). I've to re-read it but I'm afraid to be disappointed.

I haven't read the last book of the EC, the reviews weren't good. But I've read the first books so many times, and thought soooo much about them, that I know I wouldn't be disappointed. And I will, one day :)
