It's crazy to me that this man was only diagnosed with Asperger's in his 70s because its SO obvious when he recounts his childhood/young adult life.

I was diagnosed as an adult and it should have been obvious to my caretakers too. But I think a lot depends on who you are surrounding yourself with and how they deal with you.

To be fair, Hopkins was 40 in 1977. Asperger's only officially appeared in diagnostics manual in the early 90s. I was also diagnosed as an adult, most of my symptoms had been written off as simple shyness or quirkiness.
