I have a bad habit of starting new books before I’ve finished others. More for the brain, I say! Love his writing, it makes my chest pitter patter. The way he talks about language is melodic and uber topical at a time where humanities are taking daggers to the heart and DYING. Live love English. Love humanities. Love intellectualism and critical thought.

This book is so innovative in the way it uses case studies of injustice to study and expose the in/adequacy language. This is the first Coates book I’ve read but after this I will def be reading more!

“I remember that American history is filled with men and women who were as lethal as they were ridiculous” Well, YES!! Love Coates’ connections between power, politics, and writing. So poignant. So topical. Excited to keep reading!

Slowly but surely making my way through this book. I often have to reread pages in the morning when I am feeling tired but thirsty for pages. Loving his meditations on writing, in ways I feel like I relate. His words are no doubt invigorating.
