I’m not sure this is for me. It feels like a Joffrey Baratheon fanfic, and for those of you who know GoT, you mighty remember how despicable he is.
I hate reading about sex being “used” in a rape-y fashion, as means to humiliate and degrade. So many of you rated it highly - does it really get that much better? If I’m honest, I’m on the verge to dnf. I hate how reading this makes me feel.

YES, yes it gets much much better, I hated Joffrey with my entire being but adored Laurent right from the start! But also - the first book really is a lot and I don't think you should force yourself through it if you feel the themes might be too much for you. There are many other stories that would be more to your liking! ❤️

This was a DNF for me, and from what I've read from others who felt the same about it but went on to read the following books, it doesn't get much better, at least not in the next book. 🤷🏻♀️ I don't get the high ratings either. It's very fanficy and the writing is simplistic.
This book was an "Ok read", IMO. I soldiered on, and it paid off. It gets much better.😅
I would not read this again today, It would make me uncomfortable for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
