the old ways valued reputation above all. Marriage but not a desired one. That's tough and super old fashioned. I wonder how many lives where impacted by the things we uphold for the sake of others.

Chapter 4 Mom finally does what needed to be done. A sad but necessary moment for the family. Sad that her mother had to be strong and deal with so much pain

Chapter 3, Aunt Beatrice. A 6th sense.

Everyone has their own scars. People, especially children can be cruel. being black is an experience like no other. People have biases built on colorism, textureism and classism . She doesn't shy away from explaining her experiences and traumas. She does it in a way so carefully crafted. I really admire her art of storytelling or in this case truth telling.

I'm only done reading the foreword and introduction and I can already tell its a 6 star read. Absolutely phenomenal.
