The women characters in this novel are so refreshingly real. The way Hernan Diaz uses "show never tell" to masterfully describe these characters and what there going through like Ida's disdain for her father's unreliability, and the way he never really tried to fill her mother's gap. Another beautiful scene was the way Mildred would consider the brief night walk, a freedom from the absurd cage of her parents.
