Beg pardon me for saying this but St. John, despite what Brontë describes as having an "Athenian mouth", is quite a nothing burger. There I said it.

Let me tell you.....the way Brontë writes emotion with words.....I could never dream of writing said subject in such a way using her same vocabulary....

It's interesting how Brontë observes the allure, joy, and delight of love but also how quickly it can turn to obsession, idolatry, and disenchantment.

THAT chapter...💀 The "I am no bird and no net ensnares me" chapter.....😭

Oh Jane definitely likes him if she's mindlessly sketching his portrait while on holiday.

I too support women's rights.
And by women's rights I mean Jane Eyre's rights.
And by Jane Eyre's rights I mean Jane's right to utterly roast Miss Ingram and her complete lack of originality or empathy. 🔥

Rochester being all shady and hating kids: 🚩🚩🚩
Rochester brooding in the library alone: ✅️✅️✅️

I'm sorry but guys.....the meet cute gender role subversion.....SO CUTE. But also Bronte's descriptions are singlehandedly beautiful and hilarious.
Like this line about Rochester:
"I recognized his decisive nose, more remarkable for character than beauty; his full nostrils, denoting."
