These suitors are really unpleasant people. I sure hope they get what’s coming to them.

Book XI
It’s funny to imagine Odysseus telling his hosts the tale of his great journey and adding with a completely straight face “Oh yeah and by the way all these goddesses just couldn’t resist me”.

Book VIII
According to one of the characters, The gods sent them (those who fought in the Trojan War) their misfortunes in order that future generations might have something to sing about. I guess this is how the Greeks solved the problem of evil.

In Book V we finally meet Odysseus. He must be really attractive because every immortal woman he meets seems to go out of her way to help him out/enslave him for her own personal pleasure/etc. It’s also striking to me that his journey so far appears to be almost entirely at the whims of the gods. No sign of agency or free will yet.

First two books, and Odysseus is conspicuous mainly by his absence. Not sure how much we will actually get of his story and how much of his son’s (who I keep imagining as Tom Holland, thanks Nolan for that one).
