1770 changed the look of a formal military. Count Jacques de Guibert professionalized the military by building barracks, authorizing uniforms, and creating a well-trained citizen soldier in order to defend France’s revolutionary society.

Just getting started and already more informative than I imagined. What an impressive man during a difficult time. His upbringing definitely makes for a conflicted approach towards war. Working under and beside Napoleon could have only been accomplished by a man of high regard and with his abilities. Looking forward to getting through this book.
