Just started the sin of empathy. Rigney is attempting to show the reader how untethered empathy destroys families, society, churches, etc. because it forsakes reality and throws its whole being into the other persons feelings. Like other emotions there are ditches on both sides and Rigney is doing the hard work of exposing it unlike the majority who claim there is no sinful empathy.
