okay now it’s good. pretty good! i’m charmed by chapter 13, in its quality of writing and in the plot progression. i was initially unsure how i felt of the nonlinear story, but now i see it works in the book’s favor.

when i first heard about this book, i wondered why it was titled “jar of hearts.” i love figuring out possible meanings behind titles. page 157 paints such a beautifully haunting and poignant picture behind the book’s title; heart shaped candies, sweet at first, but the longer you have it, the more it hurts, just like geo & calvin’s relationship. still, the jar does not shatter. you cannot bury the past.

“part two: anger” really picked up the story and the writing is considerably better (maybe geo’s character is just annoying to me… that is also a possibility). “part three: bargaining” returns to geo’s story and it’s better than the first part which is a relief.
