Imagine getting kicked out of Italy, and then writing a book, naming the main character after yourself, descending into hell on vacay w a sassy rhyming angel tour guide who won’t stop clocking you, and then name-dropping the people irl you don’t like as being “sinners tormented in hell for their crimes” DANTE 😭

Was not expecting there to be stories of love and longing in Hell, especially the story in Canto V. Dante’s character is interesting — he is condemned for being a coward, but is also very empathetic and compassionate towards the souls he encounters in Hell, so much so that Minos warns him about being careful who he trusts. Also Dante is so dramatic lol, he feels so compassionate that he passes out

POV actually understanding the references!!! Paradise Lost referenced every Greek tragedy literally ever and I would get so lost and confused lol
