I'm enjoying the pacing of this book. I dont think a fantasy needs to slap you in the face immediately to be interesting. I'm also kind of partial to people from the normal world stumbling into the fantasy realm. Adding in the element of anticipatory grief for a dog running out of time makes the book feel very topical right now for me and where I'm at in life.
