In this chapter, Johann discusses how trauma can cause depression, he goes into depth of a study that showed 55 percent of women who were obese were sexual abused as a child/young adult. With this knowledge they used food to make themselves obese so that they wouldn’t be targeted by men. There was also a few statistics about how abuse as a child can cause mental health issues in the future.

So far, in chapter 8, we have talked about how people who are materialistic are more likely to be depressed due to consumerism telling them that they need to get the latest thing to not be a loser. The author had gone into great detail the studies that were done to support this theory.
