Finally updating this after I finished it forever ago.
This book gave a good understanding to the power of dictatorships and what happens when we forget even the things we care about.
It gave similar themes to books like Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm while keeping its own individual character and storyline.
Super interesting and honestly the best book I’ve read for a class so far.
4.5/5⭐️

Forgot to update the next readings I had to do..
GIRL REALLY KISSED A MARRIED MAN WHO’S WIFE JUST GAVE BIRTH TO HIS CHILD.
SHES MESSY!!!
The real life connections of oppressive governments, WWII, and discrimination make this book easily relatable for a general audience and allows its readers to connect more deeply with the characters
I do feel like the narrator feels guilty and relates to the Memory Police in a way

Chapter 8✅
OKAY SO THE EDITOR CAN REMEMBER KINDA RANDOM BUT OK.
Anyways…
How did he know about the fricking basement?!
He’s gotta know her mother or something but who knows I certainly don’t.

Chapter 7✅
Short little chapter to finish the night cause I’m tired.
Anyways even though this chapter is short it is packed with emotion from the old man. (He’s probably my favorite character that’s not dead😂)
Loved a quote on the last page of this chapter❤️

Chapter 6✅
Okay so they disappeared roses….
They really said “let’s get rid of them” like bro seriously…?
To bad the MC can’t remember the disappeared items because she’s already forgotten the roses.
Then again it adds to the ✨plot✨
Anyways I hate the Memory Police but then again I think that’s the point.

Chapter 5✅
Chapters are getting longer!🚨
I’m just joking anyways we got a lot of references to World War II
Yep we got people in hiding
Anyways the fact that the books use the word vanished and not disappeared when the Inui’s go into hiding really intrigues me. I could be getting ahead but wouldn’t the memory police want people to forget them after they ran. So maybe they can’t disappear people👏

Chapter 4✅
Ok so they bring up that there is a gene trait that can make people “immune” to the disappearing but if that’s the case wouldn’t the Memory Police be able to track who could get it. I mean it’s still only a theory from what we know but still. However if it wasn’t inheritable or it’s a mutation then that would make more sense.
the Memory Police also are getting more aggressive so who knows.

Chapter 3 ✅
This is me keeping my thoughts straight btw.
This chapter has a lot of imagery really immersing you into the setting of the text.
We’re also more caught up in the present where as the previous 2 chapters were set in the past.
We’re definitely moving more into the plot but certainly had a short chapter there.

Finished the second chapter✅
This chapter really focuses on the control the Memory Police have over the people of the island.
The force and absolute authority they have could suggest a strong national identity although that hasn’t quite been mentioned yet.
There are also secondary themes of grief and loss that we get from the main person losing her father and later her mother.

This is my book for class.
This was just the first chapter but it was pretty interesting. Not boring or slow at all.
Anyways I gotta binge like 9 chapters now I think before tomorrow!✌️😜
