The 1960s: Who needs a plot when you can just have gratuitous sex and violence?

The 1970s: Who needs an ending when you can just have a car chase or a gunfight?

We're getting into "Berin makes a face" territory, because honestly, I prefer films made before 1960. That doesn't mean I don't watch films after that, or that some of my favorite movies weren't made after that. They just serve escapism better. Either the politics are historical, they're not as obviously applicable to today, or are under code restrictions. There are exceptions, of course, but my peace is preserved.

For some reason I started thinking about what it would cost to own all of these films on physical media, and now I have another thing to put on my "if I hit the lottery I wouldn't say anything, but there would be signs" list.

Hello, Criterion Collection? I would like one of each please.

Two notes: First, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find older foreign films, and it's difficult to not overlay current ideology on that. Second, I fucking hate Westerns.

Again, seeing films that I've just watched in the past 2-3 years on HBOMax that are no longer there, because f'n Zaslov decided what people really needed was trash tv like Doctor Pimple Popper and not Citizen Kane or The Maltese Falcon.

Today's going to be a terrible day for getting any reading done. A book like this, that can be read a few pages at a time, is marvellous for these times.
