This guy *really* likes Mahan… I guess that comes with the territory if you’re writing a biography, but I’d love to see someone debate him about competing views of naval support during the War of 1812. 🤭

Inching along… it’s interesting, but the level of depth the author goes to seems a bit unnecessary. I suppose that’s on me for not reading the article version, which probably would have been enough for my purposes, but we’re in it now!

I will say the relational connections Mayan had to TR and other senior leaders fascinates me… quite the networker, that dude.

A bit of a slog, but to be expected for this kind of book. It’s interesting as an analog for the types of debates being had in any profession around “the big questions,” so I value the depth for that reason.
