the lurking fear: okay conceptually, some cool visuals at play, but im realising that maybe lovecrafts style of writing just isnt for me. he sure does say a lot. theres smth to be said about the longwinded ramblings of the protags being justified, contextualised as they experience The Horrors that are beyond comprehension, but idk man. it just doesnt read well sometimes. this is one of those times for me

herbert west--reanimator: ive actually never watched reanimator so this read is a first for me... i like the premise a lot and herbert as a character but the writing is a little off (perhaps the dry tone is fitting, given wests clinical nature of what he does and the narrator being adjusted to this) and also the racism here is stark. probably not as bad as other lovecraft works but still. ugh.

the version i have of this isnt listed on goodreads/includes stories that are not listed in any of the other versions here. so. my subsequent thoughts are not relevant to whatever This official listing of the book is here on gr, but oh well. i think i only ever need one lovecraft collection anyways. that being said--
