To gain something, you have to lose something. This theme shines evermore during the second chapter. Certain inventions have brought with them convenience at the expense of patience, anticipation, and deep connection. The MC comes to realize how foundational phones were for him and his ex-girlfriend. When that aspect of their relationship was taken away, the feelings dissipated as well. Excited for the next chapter!

Loss is touched upon mostly during this chapter. You never know what’s important until you lose it—the general gist of that quote. In this chapter, movies are the object being erased. As the day goes on, the MC realizes how large of a role movies played in his life. So much so that in the end, after movies are erased, he is too devastated to realize what he’s agreed to erase next.
