Archetypes: The book, The Defector is a quest archetype. It is a quest, because in the story he fights his way to get the defector of the Russian FSB and his wife back from a Russian oligarch. He has to face assassination attempts and cold blooded killers to, in the end get his wife, Chiara back. In the end he gets his wife back but, the Russian defector Grigori Bulganov dies in the process of getting them back.

Summary:The main characters in the book Defector are Gabriel, and Shamron his elderly boss. This book is about a defector of Russia's Federal Security Service who is the highest ranked defector and is kidnapped back to Russia, by Russian oligarch Ivan Kharkov along with Gabriel's wife. This book mostly takes place in Europe. The inciting incident is when Chiara gets kidnapped. This book is a chronological narrative.
