When I was being held captive every time I thought that things couldn’t get any worse, somehow they always did. So instead of looking at the evil stepmother’s words, as being cold hearted and mean. I now translate them to say, we always have something to be grateful for because there will always be something that could make your situation worse.

Sometimes I would just sit and hold his hand. I wanted him to know that I loved him. That I wanted to help him if I could. He knows you are there my grandma would tell me. And I know that he did.
