The writing style is beautiful and immersive, it pulls you in effortlessly. But when you take a step back and really look at it, very little actually happens. It's the same scenes over and over. Helena thinking. Helena afraid of the dark. Helena wandering the grounds of Spirefell. Kaine performing the transfer. Helena being sick. Kaine digging through her recent memories & thoughts. Info on the world and past events

And so, the first tears were shed... chapters 47, 49, 55. Two of them were for Kaine... How much suffering can he keep locked away, and how much more is he meant to survive? I’m dreading what’s ahead. I have a bad feeling about the ending, but I’m clinging to the hope that I’m wrong.
Also, the brutality of war... it's unbearable.
On the lighter side, I love how tender but fiercely protective Kaine is with Helena.

Kaine is unexpectedly cruel yet kind, and the contrast is so unsettling. He does things that make me hate him, then quietly reveals a much softer, more caring side (so subtle you almost miss it) that somehow still manages to make me sympathize with him.
I’m still left wondering what made him choose Helena for his plans. Was it their old academic rivalry or is there a completely different reason yet to be reveal?

It finally starts to pick up the pace, and things begin to make a bit more sense. And honestly? SenLinYu’s writing is so engaging that I almost don’t care how repetitive the last 150 pages were. It kind of feels intentional, like she wants us to be just as confused and stuck in the same dull routine as Helena

I’m still a little confused, though it’s improving as the world-building and additional context unfold.
I even laughed a few times at the banter between Helen and Kaine.
Even though I’m drawn to the world, the magic system, and the overall story, I can’t help but wish that more engaging events would start happening.

Such a complex world. I'm finding it hard to understand certain aspects of the world and 'magic' system, but so far I'm very intrigued. The writing is also captivating.
