Christian life is not s perpetual honeymoon or vacation… “Jesus calls us back to the dusty road, to daily work, to the mission.”

Jan 11th:
Answering the call to true discipleship is to follow Jesus on the way to the cross.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me the ways of true discipleship and help me discover the way you call me to live for others.

Jan 10th: At the first instant of our conception we were uniquely called and named by God. We were called into being an unrepeatable expression of God. How do you respond to the realization that God has called you by name? -p. 51

Were Jesus to observe you in your life and activities, whom would he see? To what degree would he see in you the qualities he needs to proclaim his Kingdom today? How ready are you to make that commitment when Jesus calls?

Prayer: Jesus, help me overcome whatever initial hesitation I may have when called to serve you and others. Let me recognize your presence in my life as we face together the future you are calling me to.

“By the time Jesus came into their lives, Peter and Andrew were well formed in their Jewish faith. Jesus built on this foundation as he trained them to proclaim the Kingdom of God. We also need to reflect on what we have learned in our own Christian education. In what ways has it prepared us for our own response to God’s call?”
