A fitting read for this winter of extremely cold temperatures. Again, the writing is simply transportive in this part of the book. The line about each man being split in two perfectly encapsulates what I am also feeling as the reader. It is difficult to tack a single descriptor onto this part of the story. Hope wanes away and is carved into so small a piece that one begins to cut away at their hand instead.

Every time I open this book I feel transported. It’s captivating and the story has an alluring quality. I’m not sure there’s much more to say at this point, just that it is written in a unique way that really keeps me turning the pages. The adjectives used on the back cover are accurate. Brutal, harrowing, ghostly, hallucinatory.

Taking a short break at chapter five before continuing. The writing style is captivating and I feel as though I’ve been take aboard.
