The audiobook narrator is such a mismatch. Kip is from Brooklyn. He isn't a victim of severe head trauma. He isn't Lenny from Grapes of Wrath. He isn't a cartoon ape. It would be better to use a bland non-accent American accent than whatever the hell this is.
