The formatting is a mess, the lack of citations/end/ foot notes, and the lack of maps, subtracts from a valuable historical work.

This book is well written and informative. Foote has a very clear bias in favor of the south, that is unsurprising given his biography, it doesn’t substantially subtract from the historical value of this book.

I am lookin forward to finishing the book.
