The alter ego of Winkler figuratively collects the bones of the deceased in his Carinthian home village across the 20th century. Phrases get repeated like in Catholic liturgy. "When the Time Comes" refers to death, Winkler's main topic in all his works.
So far, he collected the bones of his grandparents, aunts, uncles, a suicidal person, the arms of a blasphemer. His family is large, individuals appear without intro.

The opposite of a fun read. An atmosphere of oppression dominated by catholicism. Every pleasure is sinful. Women coming with lacquered nails to the mess have to repent. The dead are layed out in their homes for three days. Very few love but a lot of hate among the villagers. On All Saints, three old men meet since 50 years and bury out their stories of the war, rant about the times and wish for a good dictator.
