A web of characters, all separate, but intertwined in ways that appeal to the darkest parts of the psyche - of what it means to be human. Is freedom really freedom if you have to be tortured by a flawed, discriminatory system, use death as a currency, and lose who you are in the process? Who would want to return to a world that condones such a thing, then commercializes it to a sickening degree?

A dystopian world that doesn’t feel as outrageous as it should (much like the hunger games). It’s discomforting how much reality I feel in this story… how a few wrong turns and a flawed system (or twelve) could result in something like this… & the way everyone on the outside justifies the violence (“the sport”) as if it isn’t people killing people at the direction of corrupt government and business.

Suffering for criminals (some justified, others wrongly accused) made into entertainment for the masses and commercialized to a sickening degree. A shot at freedom at the cost of hardening into a numb killer, taking lives while being sexualized, sold as a product, and treated like a god/dirt simultaneously.
