Chapter 2 is so comforting to me.
His childhood in the hot humid South, his deep, religious education; ambition is laughable, but he always longed for more
Then, his time in California, learning & loving the arts & history & women & hard work.
His identity as a perfect blend of the two: his New Orleans reverence for the Old, and his San Francisco appreciation of the New.
