She saved him and tried to give him a home. He refused to believe she’d suffered as much as he did, and that she suffered at the hands of HIS church. He pointed all his resentment and anger at her because it was the safest place to put it that wouldn’t upend his life. But that wasn’t enough, he also had to betray her in the worst possible way.

I literally hate Mark so much. I hated him my first read and I hate him even more on this re-read.

Of all the books I’ve read, I think Mark is my most hated character

Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought. To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears. To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool. To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen. To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies. To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.
