It’s very interesting have Florens chapters in the 1st person. While obviously stream of consciousness, it feels like a conversation, not exactly a letter because even in those there can be less jumping around. It feels as though Florens is recalling everything that happened directly to who I assume to be the Blacksmith. And I really like how the other chapters are in the 3rd person, it shows it is Florens story.

So far very interesting story-telling. Morrison utilizes stream of consciousness to implant the reader into the setting. I appreciate how the first chapter we see through Florens perspective in first person. It’s very scattered, confusing even. Then, the next chapter we are looking through the eyes of Jacob, in third person, and Florens chapter is explained in the way it’s perceived by the Anglo-Dutch trader.
