This book reads like a telenovela. First 1 guy is throwing himself at the protagonist, Emily, then another guy. Volume 2 finally she’s been locked away in the Castle Udolpho with her aunt and new uncle, & whatever the terrible horrible thing is in the castle, she’s already seen it, but we won’t know what it is until much later in the story. Dying to know what happens next!!

My fun facts & musings thus far:
- Protagonist loses both of her parents within the first handful of chapters…heartbreaking!
- There is something rustling just beyond eyesight every other chapter or so…on the edge of my seat waiting for something scary to happen. (Think I’ll be waiting a while.)
- Setting is lush & gloomy.
- This book was so terrifying in its heyday, people assumed Radcliffe was insane.
