I get it, the themes and pathos are coming together so that patriarchy takes Magnolia away from Ellery one last time. But it still feels contrived to rob characters of confronting each other.

This whole thing feels forced to rob the characters of agency in confronting each other. Undercutting the plot from getting truly messy. Just toss in a disaster that prise away the 2 soulmates from each other. It doesn't feel like a tragedy. It's a cop out.

Why say you're bringing Hazel to a completely foreign place? She spent her infancy in Indonesia. Yeah she wouldn't remember it but she's still a baby now.
