Marquise added a status update
Ladies and gentlemen and literate animals: Last call for sharing emails via DM! After this Sunday, they'll be gone, gone, bone, baby.

Also, those of you who aren't staying, where are you going to be at? And if you're staying, let me know. Everyone will be harder to communicate with if everyone is scattered to the four winds instead of happily gathered in this one site (thanks for nothing, GR.)

Nicole I’m still here and also on Storygraph! I wish GR took spam and scams more seriously because 99% of my DMs since I joined ages ago has just been sketchy. Though instead of them being more strict, they just get rid of DMs… because sureeee they’ll go the easy way out.

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ I am still here until reviews and groups are up on AmaNazi's chopping block, then I will be gone.. But I have also created an account on The StoryGraph. I've been slowly adding books and certain reviews there already

Pssst, Nya, I have a question for you about the review guidelines on the other update.

Hard to follow specific users on StoryGraph without being a member, and I don't want to join. :(

Sigh, I'll have to bookmark the people I want to stay up to date on their reading/in touch with.

Betsie Ann I'll be here!

Did you give me your email? It's that or smoke signals, m'dear.

message 7: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Ryder I’ll be here still! Hopefully one day I can set up a blog or Substack but it is not this day. 😂

message 8: by Beka (new)

Beka I’m staying still! Will also be sharing mini reviews on my blog and in my author newsletter.

message 9: by Katja (new)

Katja Labonté I’m staying! But I also made accounts on Storygraph, PageBound, Fable, and BookBub lol.

message 10: by Alyson (new)

Alyson Stone I'm staying. I have thoought about opening accounts on other sites. Not sure that I will do it because it could get too hard to keep track of everything.

Yeah, Storygraph makes it focused on you as an individual reader, not as a reader group. I'm lucky to have my BookTube channel to connect with fellow writers. Goodreads is mainly for just me. And Story Graph is... there, haha.

Marquise Sarah wrote: "I’ll be here still! Hopefully one day I can set up a blog or Substack but it is not this day. 😂"

Hey, Sarah! Come here and let's explore Substack vs Bluehost together. 😂

I'm down to those two for a secondary blog for my non-fairy tale reviews.

Marquise Beka wrote: "I’m staying still! Will also be sharing mini reviews on my blog and in my author newsletter."

Mini-reviews! We likes them, Goose Godmother. We are trying hard to learn to do short & to the point mini-reviews, we promise. 😂

Marquise Katja wrote: "I’m staying! But I also made accounts on Storygraph, PageBound, Fable, and BookBub lol."

Hey, Katja, did I ask you for your email? I thought I had, I was taking a mental note to do so. Or are you over at Beks' group?

Marquise Alyson wrote: "I'm staying. I have thoought about opening accounts on other sites. Not sure that I will do it because it could get too hard to keep track of everything."

It will be immensely more difficult to keep track of everything. :( People are going everywhere and I can't create accounts on every single platform on the planet. :(

We'll have to be more selective, I guess.

Oh, I'd like to stay in touch with you. I have a copy of one of your retellings in my backlog or wherever my eBooks land (my Kindle is a giant blackhole that eats everything... 😂)

Which of these 3 places would I be more likely to find you at?

message 17: by Beth (new)

Beth I'm staying. When I made a scouting run, Storygraph was too overwhelming, and none of the other sites I looked into had the social vibe I've had here. I can track series or pages or whatever on my own without gamification to keep me focused.

message 18: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra I'm staying, for now. I still have lots of lovely friends here. But FYI, I am also on StoryGraph and LibraryThing.

That "for now" hurts like Hell, Sasha. 🥹

Nobody should have to leave their friends because the site's management is so shite, 🥹 you should stay, I should stay, everyone we love to talk with here should stay. 🥹

Gamification is right. I'm too much of a focused reader to bother even with book bingos. 😄🫠

Books-based games is something I never got into, and I tried. They just suck the joy of reading out for me.

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Fitzgerald This is a shame. I’ve been on Goodreads since 2017, and I appreciate all the people who have taken take time to like/comment on my reviews. It’s also been a special thing for me to have authors accept my “friend invitations”. I’ve tried to make sure all of my book buddies have gotten a personal note from me at some point. So, before the opportunity is gone, I’ll send a thanks and big hugs to every single one of my GR pals. You are the best. My TBR list has grown exponentially because of Goodreads connections! It’s been so cool to make friends with people around the globe, and with people who are literally my neighbors (shout out to Amy from Greenville, Texas!)
I’ll still be here. And I would love to keep in touch, somehow, with all my fellow “booktroverts”. 💜📚📚📚

message 24: by Olivia (new)

Olivia I'll be staying for the foreseeable future - if GR ever starts shutting down reviews/comments, etc., then I guess I'll be forced to go elsewhere, hehe. Are you planning to stay for now?

Thank you, Stephanie! <3 I appreciate that, and please do feel free to stay in touch. I'm not disappearing, I'm simply moving house so to speak. :)

I'm a "booxtrovert" rather than a "booktrovert" 😄, but I do have introvert GR friends I've always wished were more expressive and interactive (at least with me), though I do understand why they're quiet. Hopefully, they'll be more daring at my site if they follow me there?

message 26: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Fitzgerald Oh, one thing I forgot. This is to all the creepers out there that tried to use Goodreads as a dating site, and whom I suspect are at least one reason why GR execs are making these changes:
😡😡😡😢

Marquise Olivia wrote: "I'll be staying for the foreseeable future - if GR ever starts shutting down reviews/comments, etc., then I guess I'll be forced to go elsewhere, hehe."

Another for the Touch-The-Reviews-And-FAFO club! 😄 I'm convinced that's the next step: tinkering with reviews. What else are they gonna do? Groups and reviews are what are keeping the Bitter-Enders here.

Are you planning to stay for now?

I'm here with my updates and noseying into my friends' reviews, but I've not posted a single review this year and won't. I'm just slipping out in slow motion. Likely will be gone by the end of the month as life starts speeding up for the year.

Yeah, but the girls whining about those creepers were also rather careless with taking protective measures by themselves, like turning DMs to 'friends only' and not accepting everyone who sent them friendship requests only to have access to their DMs.

This was a two-way effort.

And also, there were women who used this site as their dating journal, oversharing about their love life, believe it or not. How did they expect not to attract the creeps is beyond me.

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ Yup, Yup Marquise.. That's exactly what's been going on..

I'll say it again.. I have been here since 2009 and never once have I had one unwanted creeper perv email.. You know why? Cause up until 3 months ago I've always had my msgs set to Friends/Groups only.. I'm also not a Friend Exposure Hoarder either=(Friending every Tom Dick, Harry and Susan) on this site. My profile has always been set to private as well. So only my friends have full access to me here.

Too old at the ripe ol' age of a quarter of a century. 🤣 I'm with you. In theory I could join Storygraph or open a book community on Twitter or Facebook, but I do not want to start all over again.
