The story began to have more definite shape. It felt a little amorphous before.

This is not fair:

Are we looping through touching on aspects of Japanese culture like skipping a rock across the top of a pond?

Etherial mood. Both good and bad.
What are the rules in this alternate world? It makes it hard to wrap your head around or for the author to provide structure to the story.
