Rich - I’ve long been fascinated by the life of Samuel Clemens, so I pre-ordered Ron Chernow’s book when it was announced … and it has been sitting on my bookshelf ever since. This is, of course, for exactly the reason you mentioned. The size of the book would put many door stops to shame. So, when I was thinking about what to read for the New Year, I briefly thought of this one and leapt at it before I could change my mind! The big surprise is that there hasn’t been a dull moment for me. Chernow had access to a great amount of material that gives fascinating insight into what had gone on in the mind of Mark Twain.
