So far, this book is erudite and breezy. Has helped me remember how fascinating and necessary history is. Knowing where you’ve been makes where you are and where you might go much more textured and intelligible. I’ve heard it said knowing history is preventive ethics. I think knowing history can also help trade error for wisdom through context. For psychiatry — for any domain — that’s very good indeed.
