I think this book can’t quite decide what to be- we started off with a vague magical-alternate-universe Britain, then this far in we’re starting off with establishing a firmer historical-fantasy element by mentioning that isn’t been a decade since Wilde’s trial?

Ok the beginning was a bit rushed, we got a murder in the opening chapter to get us hooked, but then the main characters are immediately introduced to each other AND introduced to magic? This is a lot!
