Vic's encounter with Manx isn't particularly harrowing, not enough to tie them together.
Vic just happened upon Manx's place & Manx didn't really do anything to her except left her locked inside his place that burning down, a fire that was started by Vic (even if accidentally).
Point being, nothing in this encounter sets up Manx as a figure that our protagonist becomes tied to and will be haunted by, you know?

The part where Victoria suddenly starts to get random calls from children, driving her nuts, the way it starts suddenly & then stops suddenly, and she comes back to normal, better be explained later in the book. Because otherwise, it's just a random event for no reason.

Everything I've read so far, gives me a distinct feeling that this book is very like Dr. Sleep by King and i'm feeling mildly disappointed.
Not only did I not pick this for a supernatural story but also that I do not wish to see the same elements used & explored by 2 different authors.

Manx makes his 1st appearance & I'm gonna say I have mixed feelings about the impact that he had on me.

I think the common underlying factor in King's & Hill's writing style is that their writing is inherently creepy. No better way to put it, really.

This book had got me turning pages and even evoking some specific emotions, but...it hasn't gripped me tight like I want to be, certainly not hard enough to make it hard for me to just let go if the story. I feel that's a shame, and the biggest culprit for this, I believe, is Manx. He just doesn't feel evil or threatening enough. Feels flat and that sucks. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Right of the bat the writing feels so similar to King's, it's almost eerie.
Don't y'all feel the similarity?

Three mid-sentence chapter endings were so jarring! Had me googling if my ebook was broken or something. Turns out it's a stylistic choice apparently 😅
