For the first 100 pages of the return of Jackson Brodie, the reader is learning much more about the extended cast of characters than about Jackson and his teenage son. I already have of sense of where it's going; I'm anxious for Jackson to come back onto the scene and for him to reconnect with Reggie, who is now a police officer.

I’m pausing to write an update because I don’t want this book to end. I will miss Brodie and Reggie, but I know they will return. But not Crystal and her step-son Harry. I gravitate toward women who survive abuse and go on to control their lives and I have a soft spot for protective older brothers. I will miss these characters. Hey, Kate, any chance you will bring them back?

At about the halfway mark, this book has taken a turn for me. One of my favorite characters, Crystal, is in trouble. And she has wisely hired Brodie. I had been enjoying “Big Sky,” but now I’m engaged on another level. Might have to binge-read all the way to the end.
