I’ve very much enjoyed other books by Louise Erdrich and this one is wonderful thus far. I did not know about the push in the 1950s to terminate federal recognition of Indian tribes and certainly didn’t know about Senator Arthur V Watkins (R-UT) who led this effort. Thus, this book does have anti-Mormon sentiments which are uncomfortable for me but understandable and even warranted based on the stories told here.
